This research area is devoted to the study of the propagation and the interaccion of optical radiation with matter, in a scale bellow the radiation wavelength (nanometric scale).
The optical effects that emerge from the interaction of light with surfaces and interfaces at a nanometric scale, or with nano-structured materials, open a number of applications in various fields. Nanophotonics is an emerging, multidisciplinary field that focuses on innovation in subjects like solar cells, efficient luminescent systems for screens or low-energy consumption lighting, persistent luminal road signaling systems, and biomedical applications, including the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, as well as bioimagenery and biosensing techniques.
