Ultrafast optics lab (FEMTO laser)

  • Ultrafast optics lab (FEMTO laser)

Our research at CIO with ultrafast optics includes:

  • Pump-Probe experiments for the study of photogeneration of charges in organic semiconductors
  • Terahertz spectroscopy techniques for the study of ultrafast charge transport in semiconductors, spin injection in semiconductors, surface and interface non-linear optics. Also the use of THz radiation in other disciplines such as biology, astronomy, study of cultural heritage, medicine and industry
  • Fabrication of nanoparticles through femtosecond ablation
  • Monitoring laser ablation processes using photoacoustic techniques
  • Micromachining and Femtosecond-laser direct writing
  • Study of surfaces and interfaces through nonlinear spectroscopy
  • Development of nonlinear materials study of their properties (i.e., we have standard experimental set-ups using fs pulses such as Z-scan, two-photon excited fluorescence spectroscopy, Optical Kerr, Wave-Mixing, multiphoton microscopy)

Facilities:

  • Regenerative amplifier (delivering 50 fs pulse width, 800 nm, 3.5 mJ/pulse, 1 kHz repetition rate. Libra, Coherent)
  • Optical Parametric Amplifier (TOPAS, Light Conversion). Tunable UV-VIS-NIR
  • Laser Microfabrication Workstation (uFAB, Newport)
  • CCD cameras UV-Vis-NIR and a variety of detection electronics
