Vicente Aboites es Fellow del Instituto de Física Británico, se graduó como físico en la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana en México y como filósofo en el Birkbeck College de la Universidad de Londres en Gran Bretaña.
Realizó investigación doctoral en el Laboratorio Rutherford en Oxfordshire, presentando su tesis en la Universidad de Essex en Inglaterra. Realizó estudios de especialidad en la Universidad de París y un post-doctorado en la Universidad de Berlín. Fue investigador invitado Fellow Maria Curie del Imperial College de Londres, entre otras instituciones.
En 1986 fundó el Laboratorio de Láseres de Centro de Investigaciones en Optica (CIO) en donde es Profesor e Investigador Titular. Ha sido investigador visitante y docente del Centro de Investigación en Matemáticas (CIMAT) y de las Facultades de Filosofía, Física y Matemáticas de la Universidad de Guanajuato entre otras instituciones nacionales y extranjeras.
Ha publicado veinte libros y alrededor de doscientos artículos internacionales con estricto refereo. Ha supervisado varias docenas de estudiantes de doctorado, maestría y licenciatura. Es miembro de la Sociedad Británica para la Filosofía de la Ciencia, del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores, de la Sociedad Internacional de Filosofía y de la Academia Mexicana de Ciencias.
