Licenciado en Física por la Facultad de Ciencias de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (1976). Realizó estudios de maestría en la University of Rochester (1978) bajo la dirección del Prof. Philip Baumeister. Los estudios de doctorado los realizó en el Centro de Investigaciones en Óptica, A. C. con grado otorgado por la Universidad de Guanajuato. Pertenece al Sistema Nacional de Investigadores desde el año 1992.

- Las principales líneas de investigación se ubican alrededor de la instrumentación óptica, en particular, el diseño, fabricación y pruebas ópticas, medición del color, instrumentos astronómicos y ópticos
