Graduado por la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos, México, en 1998 en Ciencia de Materiales. Sus intereses de Investigación se centran en la síntesis, caracterización, y aplicación de nuevos fósforos, tanto cristalinos como amorfos, nano estructurados o micro y macroscópicos. Las aplicaciones de interés actual se enfocan a Generación de Luz Blanca, Generación de Hidrogeno, detección con sistemas fotónicos de patógenos y virus. Los nuevos materiales son desarrollados en los Laboratorios de Materiales y de Materiales Nanoestructurados del Departamento de Fotónica. Como investigador en el CIO ha dirigido y participado en diversos proyectos apoyados por CONACYT. Miembro fundador de los laboratorios de Espectroscopia (2000), Materiales (2000), Materiales Avanzados y Nanoestructurados (2009), Biofotónica (2009). Como resultado de sus colaboraciones tanto en el CIO como con investigadores de otras instituciones se ha convertido en el líder del grupo interinstitucional de Espectroscópica de Materiales Avanzados y Nanoestructurados (GEMANA) desde 2010. Recientemente ha participado en la creación y puesta en marcha del Laboratorio de Microscopia electrónica y caracterización de Materiales del CIO (2014). Es el fundador también del Laboratorio de Fotocatalisis y Fotosíntesis Artificial (F&FA) del CIO en el 2014. Ha sido miembro del SNII desde 1999 y actualmente es nivel III dentro del SNII. También es miembro de la Sociedad Mexicana de Física (SMF), la Asociación Mexicana de Óptica (AMO), la Electrochemical Society (USA), la Optical Society of America (OSA) y la SPIE. Desde 2011 es miembro regular de la Academia Mexicana de Ciencias.
Fundador de la Delegación Guanajuato de la Sociedad Mexicana de Cristalografía (DG-SMCr) en 2000. Autor y coautor en más de 80 publicaciones internacionales con más de 1100 citas directas internacionales a dichas publicaciones. Recientemente ha iniciado el desarrollo de nuevos fotocatalizadores con respuesta en el Visible para su aplicación en energías alternativas.
