Eduardo Coutiño obtained his PhD in chemistry under the guidance of Prof. Johan Hofkens and Prof. Bert Sels at KU Leuven (Belgium), working in the development of nanostructured luminescent materials using the concepts of self-assembly in confined spaces. Such materials display potential applications as phosphors in lighting devices, sensors and luminescent micro-carriers. After a postdoc period in the group of molecular visualization and photonics (KU Leuven), Eduardo joined CIDETEQ as a Cátedras-CONACYT researcher where he developed protocols for the valorization of minerals and industrial waste for the fabrication of micro(meso)porous functional materials. In 2019 he joined Centro de Investigaciones en Óptica (CIO) leading the nanophotonics laboratory. His work has been published in prestigious journals (highlighting the breakthrough studies on the correlation between structure-functionalities of subnanometer silver clusters) and presented in several conferences. He has mentored bachelor and master students and taught diverse courses related to the synthesis and characterization of nanostructured photonics materials. He belongs to the SNII (level I) and to the Mexican society of materials. Eduardo has been involved in multiple (national and international) projects, highlighting his participation as scientific manager of a fp7 project (self-assembly in confined space – SACS), and as technical responsible of CONACYT and UC-MEXUS projects.
