Dr. Pichardo graduated in physics in 1998 at the University of State of Mexico (UAEM), and the master degree in physics in 1996 at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (CINVESTAV, Mex). He got his PhD at 2000 a The Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (CINVESTAV, Mérida, Mex). In 2002 he joined the Optical Research Center (CIO).

Research Interests:

Dr. Pichardo has been working on phototermal techniques for thermal and thermo-mechanical characterization of diverse material (semiconductors, polymer, metals and tissue). He also has worked on the use of optical spectroscopy like Raman for breast cancer detection in biological fluids from humans also on the analysis of breast cancer on animal models. Actually he is the leader of the lab of biomedical spectroscopy and nanomaterials at CIO. He is working on the synthesis of organic and inorganic nanomaterials for different biomedical applications: a) study the interaction of nanoparticles with cell culture, b) use of fluorescent nanoparticles for markers detection, c) functionalization of nanoparticles (using specific antibodies) for disease detection and d) In the design of surface enhance Raman scattering substrates for single molecular detection.
